For Arthur Dent, who has only just had his house demolished that morning, this seems already to be more than he can cope with. We traditionally listen to a David walliams audio book on our annual trip to Scotland so I’m sure this will get the thumbs up in February! Lapsipotilaiden elämä ei ole herkkua, mutta keskiyöllä Tom havahtuu siihen, että naapurisänkyjen asukkaat suunnittelevat jotakin salaperäistä. Overall, the novel is very hilarious and I recommend it to children over the age of 10, so they can understand some of the more serious sides to the book. However, with Tootsie’s energetic and fun personality and with a little bit of imagination, Tom is soon singing along.

The cast includes David Walliams playing The Headmaster, Alan Davies playing The Porter, Haydn Gwynne as The Matron, and Mark Heap as Sir Quentin Strillers. They do find a father-figure of sorts though, one who incites prejudice of his own and has his own sad backstory, and gives the reader something to think about on judging by appearances. It deserves to become a much-loved classic, with a wonderful warmth and tenderness mingled with humour that sets it above some of Roald Dahl’s ‘spikier’ tales. Tom invites himself to become a member of the gang, much to the annoyance of Amber (leader of the group), but to the delight of the others (unfortunately, Sally isn't ever invited to join the adventures due to her illness) so that he can take over some of the chores that Robin and Amber are limited by, and George just to lazy to do.I’m impressed by Mr Walliams ability to craft such memorable characters and have us care about them so much within the constraints of a children’s book that’s over far too soon. Readers find this romp through a 44-floor hospital to be reminiscent of books by Roald Dahl and Shel Silverstein. Whether you’re seven or seventy-seven, there’s much to love about this touching and big-hearted tale of friendship, adventure and bravery.

Without Nelly in the play, I think it would be too chaotic and every character would be on their toes, ready, and alert. When I watched this scene it lifted my spirits, and it also added to one of the themes of the play, ‘imagination can go a long way! After meeting a naive doctor and s a scary-looking porter, he ends up on the children's ward with a collection of long-term residents, some in plaster, some very ill. The masterful David Walliams has created a riotously funny yet thoughtful book that deals with big issues in a hilarious way that kids will love.

Things go from bad to worse when he meets the wicked matron in charge of the children’s ward… But Tom is about to embark on the most thrilling journey of a lifetime! Mr Walliams has the remarkable ability to deliver an engaging story that bristles with humour, whilst at the same time tackling some serious themes. Irreverent as Roald Dahl, Walliams is a unique author who's created a memorable world and cast of characters.
