The 43A6GTUK’s colour palette can skew rather pale at times, too - especially with skin tones and in very bright HDR areas. Unsurprisingly, this issue extends to noticeable clipping of shades and detail in near-white parts of HDR pictures. The 43A6GTUK delivers native 4K sources with a very respectable level of sharpness and detail, too - enough to appreciate what 4K can bring even to a relatively small 4K screen, especially when it comes to giving images a more three-dimensional look. The audio quality may not match the exceptional picture quality and may benefit from external speakers or sound systems. Percentage Luminance drop at 35 degree horizontal angle from the centre of the screen with 50% white output Hisense likes to keep you on your toes where smart TV is concerned – some of its models use Android TV, some use Roku TV… the A6G uses the company’s proprietary VIDAA U5 interface. And as far as it goes, VIDAA U5 isn’t bad: it’s clean, logical, easily customised and has an okay selection of catch-up and streaming service apps. But it doesn’t really go far enough, certainly not where the likes of Disney+ and Apple TV are concerned – neither are included here.

Even its upscaling of HD isn’t at all bad, adding at least a little texture and detail without exaggerating noise.

Percentage luminance drop at 20 degree vertical angle from the centre of the screen with 50% white output Obvious competitors where this screen-size/specification/price combination is concerned are few – certainly none of the ‘big five’ manufacturers can lay a glove on this sort of price-to-size ratio. The few brands with any credibility involved in this fight include JVC, TCL and Toshiba – and even then, you’ll struggle to do better on price. Only a couple of the ‘big 5’ TV brands we mentioned earlier can match this Hisense when it comes to HDR compatibility: the A6G covers HLG, HDR10, HDR10+ and Dolby Vision – which we can all agree is pretty decent at any money. But we’re okay with that. You have to expect some compromise at the shallow end of the pool. The question is, are the compromises too obvious? The included remote control for the Hisense 55A6BGTUK is straightforward and user-friendly. It features a minimalistic design with intuitive buttons for easy navigation. The remote also has dedicated hotkeys for popular streaming services, allowing you to launch them directly. Additionally, the TV is compatible with voice control, enabling you to control functions and search for content using voice commands. Connectivity Options These occasional motion artefacts are not the only issues with the 43A6GTUK’s images. For starters, following a frustrating trend with Hisense’s current TVs, most of its picture presets aren’t helpful, with all but the Standard mode creating looks that really aren’t at all convincing. It’s unusual to find any departure from the accepted idea of ‘design’ where televisions are concerned, and that goes double when the TV in question is priced as aggressively as the Hisense A6G. So it follows that this TV looks reassuringly like a TV, with no gratuitous design flourishes to be seen. As an upscaler, the Hisense is reasonably adept with 1080p content and all at sea with anything less information-rich. Taking a Full HD image and making it fit the screen doesn’t impact too badly on detail levels or colour fidelity, and motion remains admirably smooth and stable too. But edges can get a bit restless, and the depth of field that is at such a premium with 4K stuff disappears altogether. But taking some DVD-borne information, say, or (worst-case scenario) some daytime TV broadcasts gives the A6G what used to be called ‘the vapours’. Detail levels fall off a cliff, to be replaced by ambiguity and noisiness. Few are the televisions capable of making pictures look simultaneously soft and edgy, but the Hisense 55A6G is one of them. Audio performanceNo-one really designs a TV, do they? Well, no-one except Bang & Olufsen. Everyone else gets on with the job of making their TVs look as discreet and unassuming as possible, using materials that are entirely dictated by the price point they’re trying to hit. And so it is with the Hisense A6G. At 74mm deep, this isn’t going to be your first choice for wall-hanging. And given that its simple arc’d feet are so far apart, it’s going to need a fairly wide surface on which to stand. But once you’ve solved the problem of where to put it, the Hisense A6G doesn’t look at all bad: its bezels are slim, its branding is understated, and the plastics from which it’s made don’t feel overtly hard or thin. The Hisense 55A6BGTUK comes equipped with Ambient Mode, which allows you to transform your TV into a functional and aesthetic digital display when you’re not actively watching content. You can display personalized content such as photos, artwork, or useful information like the weather or time. Ambient Mode enables the TV to blend seamlessly into your living space, adding a touch of style and versatility to your home decor. One Connect Box The Hisense 55A6BGTUK does not feature QLED ( Quantum Dot LED) technology. QLED displays use quantum dot nanocrystals to enhance color reproduction and brightness. They offer vibrant, accurate colors, high brightness levels, and improved viewing angles. While the Hisense 55A6BGTUK may not have QLED technology, it still provides impressive picture quality with its 4K UHD resolution and HDR support. Ambient Mode

It’s worth noting that the Hisense 55A6BGTUK is a 4K UHD TV and does not support 8K resolution. 8K resolution offers an even higher pixel density, resulting in incredibly detailed images. However, as 8K content is still limited and not widely available, most consumers will find the 4K resolution of the Hisense 55A6BGTUK more than sufficient for their viewing needs. More expensive TVs hoping for a picture horror show from the 43A6GTUK should brace for disappointment. The set is actually anything but a video nasty, producing pictures that in some ways humble those of some much more expensive models.

INTRODUCING THE A6G, a new 4K UHD entry-level screen from Hisense for 2021. Aggressively priced and available in a multiplicity of screen sizes (43in, 50in, 55in, 65in and 75in), it’s clearly designed to attract 1080p upgraders, and those of us already in ownership of a main 4K display looking for an affordable largescreen for our kitchens, bedrooms and escape rooms. The Hisense 55A6BGTUK is compatible with various devices, making it versatile and convenient. It supports HDMI inputs, connecting gaming consoles, Blu-ray players, and other multimedia devices. The TV also includes USB ports, enabling you to play media files directly from a USB drive. Furthermore, it supports screen mirroring, allowing you to mirror the content from your smartphone or tablet onto the TV screen. App Store Two full-range drivers powered by a total of 16 watts isn’t the most promising recipe, and sure enough there isn’t much satisfaction to be had in the way the A6G sounds.
