About this deal

Having problems with the grinder either not grinding fine/coarse enough? From what I've seen, everyone's grinder seems wildly different in calibration. Some people grind around 1-4, while I grind around 8-11, which seems way too much difference to just be the different beans we use. There is an upper burr adjustment on this machine, which lets you go finer or coarser than standard. Search Google for some good videos on how to do it. It's easy and takes 5 minutes. Am I saying that there's nobody these days who the Barista Express is a good match for? Absolutely not! Sage are smart, if they thought this was the case they wouldn't bother continuing to manufacture it.

Change your reading to a decimal unit. You can simply do this by typing your measurements. For example (type 2 1/3 to get 2.33)

Sage Barista Express Alternatives

The Barista Pro is closest to the express in price, and it's the machine I'd recommend if you're planning on using freshly roasted coffee beans and standard baskets.

Customisation and control: The Sage Barista Express allows you to customise various aspects of the brewing process, such as grind size, extraction time, and water temperature. As you become more knowledgeable about espresso, you can experiment with these variables to find the perfect balance that suits your taste preferences. What Are the Common Portafilter Sizes? Portafilters range from 49 mm to 58 mm The most common size is 58 mm. How many MM is a Breville Barista Express? Calibrated Coffee Tamper (53mm) The 53 mm diameter fits all Sage coffee machines and lots of other brands as well. This is a popular size for a lot of portafilter baskets. How do I know what size tamper I need? What I'd say about this, is that while it's true that there are some parts for the Barista Express which are harder to get hold of, some of the more commonly required parts including the pump, the solenoid valve, rubber seals, and so on are standard parts, and they can be more economical to fix if you seek out a local espresso machine engineer.I am having serious problem with the grind size. When I use the 1-2 or 5-6 grind sizes you mentioned in your article, I am not getting any shots. The machine is choking. If you're really wanting to develop some home barista skills, the Barista Pro is probably the better machine for you. Let me just start out by making sure you're aware that these Breville machines have nothing to with Sage. Yes, they're called “Breville”, but it's not the same Breville. What this means is that if you think you might want to really get into the home barista thing and start developing skills, but then you find it all too much of a pain, and you just want the machine to take over, you can just continue using the machine on Auto, so it takes control of the nerdy stuff.

If you currently buy your coffee with your weekly/fortnightly shop, and if you enjoy that coffee – the Barista Express is probably still the best integrated espresso machine on the market for you. The Weiss Distribution Technique (WDT) is a distribution method for espresso making Using a fine needle or similar tool, the barista stirs the coffee while it sits in the portafilter. A funnel placed above the portafilter helps prevent spills. Do you tamp a pressurized portafilter? A PID is something I'd only expect to find on more expensive espresso machines except for Sage machines, as all of the Sage machines feature a PID. What it means is that the Sage machines have stable brew temperatures, at least at the source of the hot water, the Thermocoil. If you think you might want to get into the home barista hobby, but you're not quite sure if it might be a bit too much faff for you, or if you might want to do that at the weekend or when you have more time, but not when you're in a rush on busy workday mornings, then the Barista Express Impress is probably the best alternative to the Barista Express. Both machines come with a one-holed nozzle, meaning the tip of the steam wand features only one hole. De'Longhi La Specialita Arte The added complication of integrated grinder machines as I mentioned earlier, is that you have the potential grinder issues and espresso machine issues in one unit, and the chances of suffering an issue with either your grinder or the espresso machine part of the unit within 3-5 years I'd say is fairly high. Third wave specialty coffee sees coffee as an artisanal food, produced to achieve the ultimate taste experience. When it comes to replicating third wave specialty coffee at home, there’s no cutting corners. That’s why Sage created a range of automatic and manual espresso machines that honour tradition and techniques that define the very fundamentals required for third wave specialty coffee.

Finetune by tweaking any variable but the grind setting: The built-in grinder is reasonably good, but the stepped nature of it means that the difference between grind size 7 and 8 could easily be 10 seconds. In this case, we can't really finetune with the grind setting once you've got it pretty close, so adjusting the dose by +/- 0.5g is probably the better option. Don't do what I've heard of some doing, though, and take the internal grind to the finest setting from day one, because you'll just end up with the burrs hitting each other (which makes a slightly disconcerting strained motor sound), which isn't great.Sage has one major card up its sleeves when it comes to its espresso machines, and that is that they're purely focused on speciality coffee. We limit the pressure in the basket with grind size, when using standard baskets, but having the OPV at 9 bars just makes things a bit easier to get decent results. Portafilter for Breville The Dual Boiler BES920XL, BES900XL, Oracle BES980XL and BES990BSS1BUS1. How are Portafilters measured? It's not a huge deal, the same is true of the Gaggia Classic Pro, but you can very easily mod that machine to change the limit to 9 bars.
