Similar to a past reveal of why Crime Alley has its name, we get info about Acme chemical and other reveals I won’t spoil here. It’s also (indirectly) a Batman story, and the way it relates its Gotham with the one we know doesn’t work. You cannot help walking into this book with the memory of its spiritual successor, Batman: Year One. He's bitter that his wife controls Wayne Enterprises' finances and is in a better financial position than himself. Gotham City: Year One tears down the legacies of the characters that readers care about because it makes for a shocking revelation and adds pathos to its own story.

Bellaire adds so much atmosphere, be it a blue light lighting or a green one, that seems to suggest an approaching kiss is wrong. Given this information, it would've been easy for her to find out about Richard's affair and take action to stop him.I was expecting it to be set during the establishment of Gotham and probably have some more mystical aspects mixed in, like Dark Knight, Dark City. Two generations before Batman, private investigator Slam Bradley gets tangled in the kidnapping of the century as the infant Wayne heir disappears in the night and so begins a brutal, hard-boiled, epic tale of a man living on the edge and a city about to burn. A Slam Bradley story, set in Gotham, telling the origins of Gotham City, using noir, written by Tom King? I'm not sure if it was the colorist or just how suited he is for this kind of narrative, but his work here looks night and day compared to other stuff I've seen him do. I'm honored to play a small part in bringing Siegel and Shuster's landmark creation to a new audience, and in giving one of DC's oldest legends the white-hot spotlight he deserves.

The reality of the system which Slam chose to be a part of becomes unavoidable when he finds his brother’s criminal records at the station. That said, the evil this story has uncovered and where it is buried has implications in a symbolic way surrounding Gotham. A história é focada em Slam Bradley, detetive particular criado pelos mesmos inventores do Superman. There are some minor changes to the Wayne family tree, and Slam is roughly 30 in 1961 (at least I hope this is a retcon, and not meant to reveal that Selina has been sleeping with an octogenarian in the present day. Featuring weekly comic release discussions, creator AMAs, a friendly and helpful userbase, and much more! DISCLAIMER: DC Comics provided Batman News with a copy of this comic for the purposes of this review. What’s revealed is that Tom King went a step further and created a metaphorical, if not literal predecessor to Batman in Richard Wayne.

As the world falls apart around him, Slam must decide between justice and revenge—a choice that will echo down the generations and redefine both Gotham and Batman! King is just not Brubaker, but I it was interesting to read about Bruce Wayne's grandparents and how they amassed their fortune. Any story which can put this much drama and excitement into what is ultimately just a conversation between all the principle players should be celebrated. It’s Richard’s infidelity and subsequent conspiracy which causes the veneer of Gotham’s presentability to fall apart. I'm glad Tom King isn't dragging things out like he does many times, but I felt like he jumped right in too fast this time. Everything goes completely sideways as Sam discovers that he's been thrust into a kidnapping plot ala the Lindbergh's baby.
