Sam so close to winning European robot contest

A STUDENT from Ashton-under-Hill missed out on the top spot at the European RoboCup Rescue Championship.

Sam Johnston, aged 22, won two awards at the event and came second overall.

The mechanical engineer was part of the University of Warwick’s Mobile Robotics team which won awards for both best in class for mobility and manipulation at the four-day competition in Germany.

The robot had to navigate a simulated earthquake disaster area, rescuing trapped victims.
