THE landlord of the Yew Tree Inn at Conderton, Dale Allison, is celebrating after picking up two awards from his brewery.

The 36-year-old, who has owned the pub for two years, picked up the best tenant and retailer awards from Wadworth.

Dale said: “In my first year, 2010, I won best newcomer of the year. Then for 2011 we got retailer of the year which is based on sales and marketing and the percentage of extra sales.
He said: “I was working towards the best retailer award, which is judged on promotions and marketing, so was really pleased to have won that.

“But the best tenant award normally goes to someone who has been in the industry for at least five years so I was completely shocked to have won that as well. I don’t think anyone has ever won newcomer and tenant one year after the other.”

Asked about the secret of his success, Dale said: “It’s giving people what they want, having a good team of staff who want to be here and offering good quality local products and remembering that the pub is the centre of the community and ensuring it remains that way so people want to come here.”

Dale, who also runs the Bayshill in Cheltenham, is assisted at the Yew Tree by his wife Helen and a team of seven staff.
